Pizza and Wine Pairings

I loveeeeee pizza. I also love wine. Together, they make a night in of binge-watching your favorite reality shows. Here are 5 pizza and wine pairings that will rock your world!

PLAIN CHEESE PIZZA WITH RED SAUCE – SANGIOVESE

The tomato sauce on the pizza are acidic and should be matched with acidic wine. The red Italian grape Sangiovese is high in acidity. Most of the time it’s medium-bodied, and the tannins in Sangiovese can stand up to the richness of the cheese.

PEPPERONI PIZZA – RHONE-STYLE BLEND

Spicy pizza really lets the spiciness in wines shine! Try a either Syrah or Grenache. Both of these varietals compliment the pepperoni so well, and they have plenty of acidity and tannin. Get them either from the region of France or Australia.

VEGETABLE PIZZA – CHARDONNAY

White wine will be the star of the show when pairing it with the right pizza. A full bodied and dry Chardonnay would match the richness of the cheese and compliment the veggies very well. I would suggest going for a white Burgundy or a Chardonnay from California.

MUSHROOM PIZZA – RED BURGUNDY

The dry savory complexity of a red Burgundy will go so well with the earthiness of mushrooms. Although it doesn’t say on the label, Red Burgundy is made from Pinot Noir.

SAUSAGE PIZZA – CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Cabernet is the best when it comes to matching it with sausage pizza because of it’s full body and tannins. The wine goes so well with the meatiness while its acidity carves through the richness of the meat and cheese combo.
